THIS WEEK IN PARIS

Hey there, Paris lovers! Brrr, did anyone else feel that sudden chill this week? Yep, November decided to show up early and bring its cold friend along. But we still snagged a few sunny days – and we made the most of them!

It's funny how things change with the seasons. We're a month into our little lion’s first school year now, and we've got a whole new routine going.

Oh, and here's something I've noticed: our tour groups at BikeAboutTours.com and ParisLoveAffairTours.com are looking a bit different these days. September is all about the couples in Paris. With the kids back in school, we see fewer families and many more lovebirds exploring the city.

VISITING PARIS

Stepping into Dreams at the Carrousel du Louvre

This weekend, we had the delightful experience of visiting House of Dreamers at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, taking our son along for the adventure. He absolutely loved it, and so did we! This enchanting immersive exhibition has been captivating visitors of all ages, inviting them to step into a world where dreams come to life. Created by talented Italian designers Elena and Giulia Sella, the exhibition has already charmed over a million visitors across Europe.

The heart of House of Dreamers lies in its 18 immersive installations, each designed to awaken the senses and spark the imagination. Visitors can wander through a shimmering enchanted forest, dive into giant ball pits, explore upside-down rooms, and dance on colorful, interactive floors. Every corner of the exhibition offers a new surprise, from walls covered in roses to rooms suspended from the ceiling.

What sets House of Dreamers apart is its ability to appeal to both children and adults alike. The interactive nature of the installations encourages playfulness and exploration, while the artistic beauty and thoughtful design speak to more mature sensibilities. It's an inclusive space where visitors are encouraged to overcome fears, share desires, and rediscover the magic of childhood.

Located in the iconic Carrousel du Louvre, House of Dreamers transforms this Parisian landmark into a fantastical realm. The exhibition seamlessly blends art, technology, and interactivity to create unforgettable moments. Whether you're seeking a family adventure, a unique date idea, or a solo journey into the imagination, House of Dreamers is an extraordinary escape from the everyday into a world of wonder and possibility. Our family's experience was lovely, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and inspiring outing in Paris.

HIDDEN GEMS OF PARIS

Discovering English Bookshops in Paris Beyond Shakespeare and Company

During a recent tour, a guest from the United States asked me for recommendations on English-friendly bookshops in Paris, sparking the idea for this article. While Shakespeare and Company often tops the list for English-speaking visitors, Paris is home to several other charming bookshops that offer unique selections and cozy atmospheres. These hidden gems provide a delightful experience for book lovers seeking to explore the literary side of the city beyond the well-trodden paths.

One such treasure is Librairie Galignani, located on Rue de Rivoli. Established in 1801, it holds the distinction of being the first English-language bookshop on the continent. Galignani offers a refined selection of English and French books, with a particular emphasis on art, fashion, and literature. The shop's sophisticated ambiance, with dark wood shelves and plush seating, invites visitors to linger and explore its carefully curated collection.

Another must-visit is The Abbey Bookshop, nestled in the Latin Quarter. This Canadian-owned shop is a haven for English-speaking bibliophiles, boasting an extensive collection of over 35,000 titles. The Abbey Bookshop is known for its warm, welcoming atmosphere, with books stacked from floor to ceiling in a charmingly chaotic manner. Visitors can enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee while browsing, making it a perfect spot to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

For those seeking a more eclectic experience, San Francisco Book Company in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood offers a diverse range of second-hand books. This cozy shop specializes in English-language literature, from classic novels to contemporary fiction, and is a favorite among locals and tourists alike. The knowledgeable staff are always eager to help with recommendations, ensuring that every visitor leaves with a new literary discovery. These bookshops, each with its own unique character, provide a wonderful opportunity to explore Paris's rich literary culture beyond the iconic Shakespeare and Company.

FRENCH SONG OF THE WEEK
Alain Bashung - Osez Joséphine

If Bob Dylan had a French cousin, it might just be Alain Bashung. This week's French song, "Osez Joséphine" by Bashung, carries unmistakable Dylan-esque vibes with its poetic lyrics and distinctive vocal style. Released in 1991, this track became one of Bashung's signature hits, blending rock sensibilities with French chanson traditions.
