Enchanted by the Richelieu Research Room

I feel incredibly fortunate to have access to the Research Room at the Richelieu branch of the National Library of France (Bibliothèque Nationale de France). It's an inspiring space where I spent time this week writing parts of The Paris Love Letter. Just look at that room! It's hard to keep my head down and focus on work amidst such stunning surroundings.

PARIS CAFES

A Slice of Home at Cafe des Anges

This was shot with my phone while walking our dog in the neighborhood ©️ 2023 James Christopher Knight

Cafe des Anges has become a go-to spot in the 11th. It's a cozy little place on rue de la Roquette that feels like a second home to us now.

The vibe inside is pretty cool—it's like someone mashed up a New York diner with a Parisian cafe. There is exposed brick next to worn-out walls covered with wallpaper and funky art, and the chairs and tables are classically Parisian. It's comfy and laid-back, perfect for hanging out.

We often swing by for breakfast. The menu changes, but there's always something tasty. It's not fancy stuff, just good, homey food that feels like it was made with love. Honestly, it reminds me of the kind of meals my grandma used to make.

Our breakfast at Cafe des Anges

Besides the diner-cafe vibe, what makes this place special is the staff. They're genuinely nice people. They remember us, always have a smile, and never rush us, even when we camp out for hours with our laptops. Oh, and they usually bring a bowl of water for our pup! It's the kind of place where you can just be. Whether it's a quick coffee or a lazy morning with the family, Cafe des Anges just feels like hanging at grandma’s house.

JOIE DE VIVRE

Embrace the Parisian Spirit From Home

I'm excited to introduce "Joie de Vivre," a new section dedicated to bringing the Parisian lifestyle to you, wherever you are! Discover recipes, tips, and curated products to infuse your life with the charm and joy of the Paris lifestyle. Let's celebrate the art of living well together!

Croissant Chronicles: Baking Parisian Bliss at Home

Welcome to our first "Joie de Vivre" feature! We're diving right into the heart of Parisian culture with a quintessential French treat: the croissant.

There's something magical about biting into a perfectly flaky, buttery croissant. It's more than just breakfast - it's a moment of pure Parisian bliss. While nothing beats grabbing a fresh croissant from your local boulangerie, making them at home can be a rewarding (and delicious) experience.

To kick off our journey into Parisian living, I'm sharing this fantastic croissant recipe video. It's a great way to bring a taste of Paris into your kitchen, no matter where you are. So, roll up your sleeves, channel your inner Parisian baker, and let's create some homemade magic!

Bon appétit!
