OUR WEEK IN PARIS

Snapshots From Paris (and the countryside)

This is a composite photo of our young lion dressed as an elf for the holidays.

As the New Year approaches, I wanted to take a moment to wish you all a joyful and peaceful start to 2025. This week’s newsletter is a little shorter as I’ve been on holiday, spending time with family in the countryside. It’s been a heartwarming break filled with muddy walks on dirt roads, laughter, and a bit of festive fun.

We’ll be back to our regular schedule next week, but for now, I wanted to send my warmest wishes for a Happy New Year filled with love, adventure, and a touch of Parisian magic!

Happy New Year!

JOIE DE VIVRE

French Traditions to Inspire Your New Year Celebrations

As the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve, Paris comes alive with a quiet elegance that reflects its timeless charm. While the Eiffel Tower sparkles in celebration, Parisians gather with loved ones to welcome the New Year in ways that are both festive and refined.

A traditional Parisian New Year’s meal often features indulgent delicacies like oysters, foie gras, and smoked salmon paired with a glass (or two) of champagne. These luxurious treats symbolize prosperity and joy for the year ahead. For dessert, a bûche de Noël or a galette des rois might make an appearance, adding a sweet note to the festivities.

Beyond the table, Parisians embrace the spirit of togetherness. Whether it’s a cozy dinner party at home or a soirée with friends, the focus is on meaningful connections and savoring the moment. At midnight, it’s customary to exchange kisses on both cheeks and wish each other “Bonne Année!”

If you’re inspired to bring a touch of Parisian elegance to your own New Year’s celebrations, consider incorporating some of these traditions:

  • Create a French-Inspired Menu: Serve oysters with a squeeze of lemon, a charcuterie board with pâtĂ© and cheeses, or a simple yet elegant dish like coq au vin. Don’t forget the champagne!

  • Set a Sophisticated Table: Use candles, fresh flowers, and your best tableware to create an ambiance of understated luxury.

  • Embrace the Art of Toasting: Raise your glass and share heartfelt wishes for the year ahead with your loved ones.

  • Savor the Moment: Take a cue from the Parisian way of life by slowing down, enjoying good company, and appreciating the little joys of the evening.

No matter where you are, these Parisian traditions can add a touch of magic and sophistication to your New Year’s celebration. Bonne Année et bonne santé! May your 2025 be filled with love, laughter, and a sprinkle of Parisian charm.

FRENCH SONG OF THE WEEK
Tino Rossi - Petit Papa Noel

This week, I’m sharing a timeless French classic, Petit Papa Noël by Tino Rossi. While Christmas has passed, this beautiful song holds a special place in my heart. Our son’s Parisian godfather has sung it to him recently, making it a cherished part of our family’s holiday memories.

Originally released in 1946, Petit Papa Noël is a tender and nostalgic melody that has become synonymous with the holiday season in France. Its gentle lyrics and Rossi’s soothing voice evoke the magic of Christmas, making it a beloved favorite across generations.

Even as we step into the New Year, I hope this song brings a little warmth and joy to your week. Whether you’re reminiscing about the holidays or simply enjoying its timeless charm, Petit Papa Noël is a reminder of the love and traditions that make this season so special.

Bonne Année et bonne écoute!
